Why is it Better to Connect to the Internet with a VPN?

Utilizing a VPN provider while streaming online can enhance personal security and privacy.

Fremont, CA: For the past few years, entertainment and media have been completely digital. This is evident from the major cable providers rushing to release their own native streaming platform and thereby attempting to win customer’s loyalty on choosing their new “streaming package”. Eventually, all streaming opportunities are not the same. It varies for those who are residing abroad as the ability to stream content is different for those residing in the United States. On the other hand, 2020 is a year of data that emphasizes the necessity for personal security and privacy with the rise in data breaches and security exploits, especially while streaming online. To address this, individuals living abroad can use a VPN provider or a virtual private network.

A VPN is a service or a private network that uses a public network to help to connect remote sites and users together. It utilizes “virtual” connections routed through the internet from a third-party VPN service to the remote site or person. It helps to ensure security such that anyone intercepting the encrypted data can’t read it.

When the user turns on the VPN, it creates an encrypted tunnel between the computer and the server operated by the VPN company. Thus, streamlining all of the web traffic through this tunnel hides the IP address while making it appear as if the traffic is coming from the widely spread VPN’s server rather than the user’s computer, which is potentially subject to region-restricted content. This essentially makes it harder for third-party advertisers or others to track your activities online. This mitigates the ability of internet service providers (ISPs) to sell anonymous data for a profit. Therefore, it is mandatory for individuals who stream online to use a VPN irrespective of the place they reside in. Recently, individuals who want to secure their communications over unsecured public WiFi networks and to remain anonymous during their online transactions have started subscribing to paid VPN services.
