Why Enterprises Must Adopt SD-WAN

SD-WAN networks, a software approach managing wide-area networks, offer ease of deployment, central manageability, and reduced costs, and can improve connectivity to branch offices and the cloud.

FREMONT, CA: Networking is nothing that it used to be. For the past years, the epicenter of networking began to move. It shifted from company-owned data centers to the cloud. The users focused on networks that moved from computers connected with wires to mobile devices, which are connected over the air. These shifts in which the business processes run and how they're accessed are changing how they connect their locations, how they think about security, the economics of networking, and what they ask of the people those who take care of them.

Businesses have started to use the networks for more than data transmission. Now the business is using to sense the environments as well. This is going to have a major impact on business not just for network operators, but directly to the bottom line as well.

Wireless networking equipment can collect data on how people and things move through and use of physical spaces, for instance, IoT devices in a business or the medical devices in a hospital. Data can directly help the facility owners to optimize the physical spaces, for productivity, ease of navigation, or even to enhance retail sales. Still, as business execs become aware of the power of this location data, the use of this technology will begin to snowball.

When it comes to its WAN solutions, the enterprises are different. Some enterprises, looking for security solutions that align with compliance regulations, need on-premise security. Small businesses often want their security solutions in the cloud. Many companies need hybrid solutions that join the elements of on-premise control for compliance, with cloud-based solutions for flexibility and agility.

This leads to a growth in business for managed service providers, more of which will begin to offer SD-WAN as a service. The enterprises can expect MSPs to grow at about double the rate of the SD-WAN market itself, in line with IDC's predictions.
