FREMONT, CA: T&M specialists Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI Solutions confirms their respective test equipment on correct implementation for 5G NR and LTE. 5G NR utilizes different features, functions, and complex algorithms, making it crucial for UE manufacturers to conduct extensive testing of 5G mobile devices before taking them to the market. The thorough validation of the standardized coexistence is key to the success of 5G technology. This sets the basis for the collaboration of Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI, who, in the past year, have cooperated on speeding up the integration of kinds of essential 5G NR features. The cooperation varies from RF performance testing to protocol stack verification and full IP data throughput tests to support Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI customers such as chipset and device manufacturers, operators and test houses, and network infrastructure clients.
Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI work together to implement a new 3GPP 5G NR feature while understanding its integration challenges. When developing a new kind of feature, virtual testing is an option, but a UE device is ultimately necessary to verify the newly created feature. Using the R&S CMX500 from Rohde & Schwarz as a network infrastructure emulator together with the VIAVI TM500 UE emulator is a versatile replacement to a real device. This allows companies to achieve their goals in providing stable, mature, and wider 5G 3GPP feature coverage at an accelerated rate.
The test instruments enable testing complex 5G signaling features for NSA mode or SA mode in FR1. This consists of features such as DSS (dynamic spectrum sharing), LTE advanced and 5G NR carrier aggregation combinations, over-the-air (OTA) testing, still features verification of high-bandwidth tests in FR2 spectrum.
With the regular exchange between companies’ development teams, sharing knowledge and experience offers a robust collaboration that speeds up UE commercialization. CharlCilliers, the Vice President of Engineering at VIAVI, says: “Time to market is the number one priority for our customers and the benefit of this cooperation is that we can accelerate our technical development to launch new 3GPP features at a much earlier stage. This helps our customers achieve their goals. One of the enablers of this cooperation is the 5G testing portfolio offered by Rohde & Schwarz, together with a wealth of experience in wireless technologies in both companies.”
ChristophPointner, Senior Vice President for Mobile Radio Testers at Rohde & Schwarz, comments, “Rohde & Schwarz is pleased to cooperate with VIAVI as a leading provider of network testing equipment. When two major T&M specialists combine their expertise in a joint development, the results benefit both companies and also all their customers in the network and UE testing fields.”
