Non-raised floor cooling
Cooling systems placed in close proximity to the rack can improve cooling performance and efficiency without a raised floor, and this method can be used as a complete solution or as an addition to a cooling system.
Close-coupled cooling advancements
Cooling systems have been developed that shorten the distance air has to travel from the racks to the cooling unit. With required infrastructure, these systems can reduce cooling costs using less power to move air and minimizing the mixing of the hot and cold air.
Water has a higher thermal conductivity when compared to air, so a water cooling system helps the processor to run at high processor speeds while keeping the system noise and temperature low.
The liquid cooling system is allowing water to circulate through a small pipe inside a heat sink attached to the processor. As the liquid flows through the pipe, heat generated by the processor is transferred to the liquid and the warm liquid is allowed to flow through the pipe to a radiator where the excess heat is released into the surrounding air outside the system. The cooled liquid again circulates through the pipe to the processor to continue the cooling process.
Using blanking panels is the simplest, cost-effective and most misunderstood method to improve cooling efficiency. It is just ensuring that the warm air from behind the rack cannot be drawn back into the front of the rack through open rack spaces which will immediately improve efficiency.
Cluttered cables impede the airflow and causing the servers to run hotter than necessary. Cables should be laid together and tightly bundled to minimize its effect on airflow.
Floor tiles and vents
The size, shape, position, and direction of floor vents affect how much cool air is delivered. A careful evaluation of the placement and the airflow to the highest power consuming racks will be useful.
Synchronizing your computer room air conditioning (CRAC)
In many data centers, each CRAC doesn’t communicate with other CRAC. Each CRAC bases its temperature and humidity setting on the temperature and humidity being sensed in the warm air. It is possible for one CRAC to be trying to cool or humidify the air while another CRAC is trying to dehumidify and or reheat the air. Resolving this can save energy and reduce pressure on the CRACs.
