FREMONT, CA: With a view to drive growth, accelerate innovation, and speed digital transformation demanded by customers across industries, Cisco, the network giant, partners with Ericsson, a telecommunications company. Together, both the companies plan to create network of the future by offering end-to-end products and services across network architectures including 5G, cloud, IP, and the Internet of Things.

The key offerings of Cisco and Ericsson partnership include: an end-to-end product and services portfolio for the service providers; a highly secure technology architecture for seamless indoor/outdoor networks; and combining scale and innovation of both companies to accelerate the platforms and services needed to digitize countries and create the Internet of Things.

The partnership is also looking forward to accelerate the introduction of faster mobile devices through 5G, the next phase of mobile telecommunications. With high speeds of 5G wireless connections for many new applications including wearables, smart homes and traffic safety will be possible, reported Petey Carey for San Jose Mercury News Business.

As part of the joint venture agreement, both the companies are committed to network transformation through reference architectures and joint development, systems-based management and control, a broad reseller agreement, and collaboration in key emerging market segments. In order to ensure compatibility and interoperability of devices manufactured, Cisco and Ericsson will be discussing a fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms (FRAND) policies that are required for license obligations by standards organizations for members that participate in the standard-setting process. The two companies will license their respective patent portfolios through an agreement.

Making use of both their best offering including routing, data center, networking, cloud, mobility, management and control, and global services capabilities, the companies have set the ground for innovation. As in today’s connected world ultrafast networks, cloud services, and the Internet of Things become increasingly central to customers' needs, the partnership between Ericsson and Cisco will accelerate the pace of creativity across the communications industry. Integration of IP and wireless solutions as part of the joint venture will boost development of new wireless technologies.

“I am excited to work with Cisco on continuing to shape the Networked Society. Foremost, we share the same vision of the network’s strategic role at the center of every company’s and every industry’s digital transformation. Initially the partnership will focus on service providers, then on opportunities for the enterprise segment and accelerating the scale and adoption of IoT services across industries. For Ericsson, this partnership also fortifies the IP strategy we have developed over the past several years, and it is a key move forward in our own transformation,” says Hans Vestberg, President and Chief Executive Officer, Ericsson.
