Arrow Electronics Simplifies 'Internet of Things' for Enterprises and Hardware Vendors

Enterprise Networking Mag | Thursday, June 07, 2018

LAS VEGAS, CA: Arrow Electronics has announced the launch of its new “Arrow Intelligent Services” framework along with a set of software that aims to simplify the way Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), enterprises and suppliers build, deploy and manage connected intelligent systems.

The new framework will empower developers to rapidly and cost effectively build applications capable of interacting with IoT hardware through standard web services and APIs, instead of proprietary interfaces and development kits which are often very complex. Proprietary development environments and interfaces are replaced with a standardized light weight API-based framework. Starting with gateways, Arrow is also providing management capabilities for a number of product categories.

Arrow’s API centric approach is expected to contribute towards integrating billions of discrete IoT building blocks that Arrow markets to more than 100,000 customers worldwide. The new services allows customers and OEMs to select and integrate the very best technologies ranging from semiconductors and embedded computers to even data hosting infrastructure, billing, analytics and third party enterprise applications.

Additionally, Arrow is collaborating with MachineShop to launch its API-centric architecture in market. MachineShop is the provider of API-based IoT Platform and has built its reputation in working with Fortune 500 OEMs and market-leading semiconductor companies and has recently received recognition from Gartner Research as well.

In the initial phase of the launch of its new “Arrow Intelligent Services” framework, Arrow will be collaborating with gateway vendors such as Embedded Planet, Lantronix and Netcomm Wireless to provide the market’s first Intelligent Gateway offering. The Gateway takes advantage of a common set of API-based services to normalize set-up, configuration and management of participating vendor gateway products.  Users can easily power up and connect the gateway, input basic network and customer information through an intuitive web-based interface, and the gateway will download the appropriate software and auto-configure according to the vendor and user defined parameters.

Also, Arrow-enabled gateways will enable users to push intelligence and system control to the edge and seamlessly integrate with a rich set of cloud services for data ingestion, filtering, rules and events, API proxying, user, device, gateway management and more.
