Firewall is a network security software that tracks incoming and outgoing traffic.

Fermont, CA: A Firewall is a network security software that scans incoming and outgoing traffic of a network. The software examines whether to allow or block particular traffic, depending on security protocols. Firewalls have been globally adopted as the first line of defense for protecting network security for over 25 years now. The software creates a barrier between secured and managed internally and outside unknown networks, such as the internet. Firewalls can be software, hardware, or both.

Following are some of the different types of Firewalls:

● Proxy Firewall

Proxy Firewall is an early type of software that serves as the gateway from one network to another for a specific application. This firewall network can offer added services such as caching content by securing the connections with an outside network. Though it may affect output abilities and the applications they support.

● Stateful Inspection Firewall

The Stateful Inspection firewall is a traditional firewall type that allows or blocks traffic depending on port, state, and security protocols. It monitors all activities from the start to the end of a connection. Stateful Inspection Firewall uses data from earlier contacts and packets that belong to the same connection.

● Unified Threat Management or UTM Firewall

The Unified Threat Management or UTM typically combines the functions of a stateful inspection firewall with intrusion detection and anti-virus. Occasionally, it also involves more services and cloud management.
