The project aims to create an expedited network architecture that is open, sovereign, and energy-efficient, allowing for the optimal deployment of 5G applications.

FREMONT, CA: 6WIND, a leading high-performance, and secure networking software company, recently announced that the PIRANA project (Platform Inline for Radio, Application, and Network Accelerations) has been selected as the winner of the “France Relance” recovery plan, led by the General Directorate of Enterprises (DGE) and managed by Bpifrance, as part of the 5G and future telecommunications network acceleration strategy. This project aims to create sovereign solutions for 5G infrastructure networks so that they may be controlled from end to end.

The project aims to create an expedited network architecture that is open, sovereign, and energy-efficient, allowing for the optimal deployment of 5G applications. 6WIND, KALRAY, ATOS, ORANGE, and RENAULT collaborated on this project.

6WIND has also been named in the “Top 10 Networking Solution Providers in Europe – 2020” list by Enterprise Networking Magazine. This project will employ Kalray’s intelligent acceleration cards and 6WIND’s revolutionary network solutions to construct high-performance solutions that will be used to boost 5G network infrastructures at the CORE, EDGE, and RAN. While ATOS, Orange, and Renault will provide end-to-end use cases with the ITS (intelligent transport system) technology, such as autonomous vehicles and smart cities. Orange and Renault will implement and test this expedited infrastructure together.

Due to the widespread use of 5G and the wide range of applications that this technology enables for businesses and end-users, network infrastructures are undergoing significant changes. The market needs efficient, scalable, resilient, cost-effective, and energy-efficient solutions to enable optimal deployment of any application,

Julien Dahan, CEO of 6WIND, commented, “We are thrilled that the PIRANA project has been selected. We are excited to be working with our partners on this project and look forward to delivering the solutions that will help the market adopt the 5G infrastructure seamlessly and efficiently. Our networking software solutions along with our most recently launched 6WINDCloud solution based on the cloud native architecture will play an integral part in the successful delivery of this project”.

This project will give infrastructure providers, telecom solution providers, and mobile carriers with an innovative and sovereign acceleration solution for any vertical of the telecoms market. The project is part of a larger picture in which intelligent software and hardware acceleration will play a vital role in future Cloud and Edge data centers, optimizing data processing and infrastructure utilization. “We provide performance, security, and reliability through our solutions, which can be integrated and used in big network environments with ease,” states Dahan.
